The Replanting Grant

On the advice of Ah Tiam and Chong  I went to MPOB (Malaysia Palm Oil Board), Renggam, Johor, on 21/5/2009, to apply for replanting grant.

2. I immediately canceled my order of 600 trees from a private nursery in Gersik, Muar, through my brother Abd. Latif Ahmad, Pengulu Mukim Gersik, Muar, Johor  I heard perhaps the price was RM6.00 per plant. On my visit to his house recently in Kompleks Penghulu Gersik, he told me the price instead was RM9.00 per plant including transportation to the location in Kahang, Kluang.

The MPOB is about 30 km. drive from Taman Lambak towards Renggam. Mardi grazing ground is opposite the road on the right side. MPOB situates on high ground a very sophisticated building. After recording my particulars in the visitor’s book, the jaga gave me electronic card key. The key opened the gate and door of the main office.

My land Lot 4020 area of 8.0947 hectors (20 acres) situates in Mukim Kahang, Kluang, Johor. Former Johor State Government, under Y.A.B. Dato Abd. Ajib Ahmad as Menteri Besar, granted to 50, (including me in this group, and at Bukit Hantu in Kulai and Gunung Lambak in Kluang of other groups), Johor State Civil Service officers 20 acres each. The land had been planted with oil palm more than 25 years ago. The produce now averages 10 tons per month. My land had produced a 20-ton peak palm fruits when the plants aged 15 years.

The Committee of Land Resources, in its meeting in 1986 under the chairmanship of Menteri Besar Y.A.B. Dato Abd. Ajib Ahmad, followed suit the precedent of his predecessor, Y.A.B.Tan Sri Othman Saat, approved the grant of this land to me.

I do not know the closing date of this offer by the MPOB.

The officer Suhaimah at counter 1 took my application form, a photocopy of my identity card, 2 copies of my land title and my management undertakings.

The idea of the offer is to help small farmers (below 100 hectors) replant oil palms. It is very generous of present BN Government under premiership Najib Tun Razak.

Chinese folks in Kahang have the most advantage because most of them possess lands. I am only one of very few Malay farmers.

I filled in application form. I submitted with photocopies of identity card, land title (2 copies) and undertaking consent. MPOB officer would visit my land, when satisfied, will ask me to fell down old plants and would approve the grant of RM7,000.00 per hector. The total amount would be RM56,000.00.

I pray to Allah S.W.T. that my application would be approved.

End

Since MPOB wants me to clear the land first and foremost of old trees, and my application for an advance ignored, I rejected the offer by phone. I don't trust MPOB's sincerity and the fact that I may lose my income if I follow their instruction.
